Families who call the area along the Little Deschutes River "home" are outnumbered by their summertime neighbors...the Mosquitoes.  While they are seasonal guests, they are guests that are not desired by most.

While the City of La Pine has a mosquito abatement program within the City limits, and those who live north of the City of La Pine have a Vector Control District, those who live in neither jurisdiction fight the mosquito battle on their own.

Some residents spray their property with a Do-It-Yourself products, while others pay professional mosquito control applicators to control mosquitoes on their property.  Neither of these are as cheap, efficient or effective to control the mosquito populations as they should be, since most of these properties do not even produce the mosquitoes.

The swarms of mosquitoes for those living away the Little Deschutes River, are migrating onto properties from the flooded river banks and water filled oxbows along the Little Deschutes.  Most of the properties producing mosquitoes do not even have a home on them.  The mosquitoes migrate a few miles, looking for the blood needed for their next clutch of eggs to lay.

Residents within the mosquito infested areas are taking an initiative to research the feasibility of establishing and maintaining a Vector Control District to battle the mosquito and improve the properties...making the time spent during the summer more enjoyable by reducing the mosquito populations.  The map below outlines a proposed boundary for the District.  Click here for the proposed Petition and Economic Feasibility Statement

This website will hopefully provide the information needed to make an educational decision on if a Vector Control District is needed, justified and desired by the residents who will be directly affected by the service.  If interested in helping out, we could use the help of all willing and able residents within the proposed area.

Each section of the proposed District below represent a different voting precinct, therefore each would require it's own election efforts.
